This guy walked up to us as we were walking along the beach in Haiti and said 'My arm hurts...can you take a look at it?'

Assuming something minor, I was shocked to see that his upper arm had a complete fracture of the humerous about halfway down...and it had been untreated for 2 years.

After a year, the incredible pain kind of went away and he still has use of the arm because the muscles have grown to hold the arm together.

Moving his arm, which was painless to him, made my knees turn to jelly.

It isn't right that this has gone on for 2 years and hasn't been treated because he has no money and no access to care. We are no longer in Haiti (this happened almost on the last day) but we have his contact info and are trying to arrange someone in Haiti to do the surgery to put his arm back together (before his brachial artery gets severed by the freely moving broken bone).

This is what it means to have no access to care...that this can go on for over 2 years. I can't imagine what the first year was like.
